BTEC Level 2 Diploma in Business

• This new one year BTEC level 2 in Business is designed to provide an insight into the world of work.
• It introduces learners to particular areas of employment and provides a good basis to go on to a more advanced work-related qualification.
• Students learn by completing projects and assignments that provide an insight into the world of business.
• A BTEC level 2 Diploma is equivalent to four GCSEs grades A*– C and is taken as a full-time
course. You may also retake GCSE English Language or Maths if necessary.
• We recommend that you need to enjoy completing coursework/written assignments and
working in teams to complete this course successfully.

In the BTEC Diploma in Business (level 2)

You will undertake a range of different units which will include
• Business Purposes– In this you investigate 4 different business organisations
explaining their ownership, purpose and how they have changed.  You also explain how a
business has responded to changes in the business environment.
• Business Organisations -  This unit allows you to assess whether a business
meets its aims and objectives, to compare functional areas of businesses e.g. personnel and 
finance departments, and consider how these functional areas link together.
• Financial Forecasting for Business - This unit looks at the financial aspects of
running a business. You evaluate the importance of cash flow and breakeven for effective
management of business finance.  You calculate start up, operating, fixed and variable costs.
In addition you outline the difference between net profit and gross profit.
• People in Organisations– You analyse the relationship between job roles,
functions and organisation’s structure.  You create the forms a firm needs to recruit and
you produce a personal development career plan.  In addition you have a mock  interview for
a specific job.

Assessment 

Coursework assignments, involving a range of tasks, scenarios and case studies. 
Some oral tests.

Entry Requirements 

At least 3 GCSE grade D’s, including English Language or Maths or a merit or
distinction on a related vocational course at Level 1.  An interest /experience of working in a
business would be useful. Previous study of business is not required.
