ENGLISH GCSE

AQA

It’s one of those things you just have to have! If, for whatever reason, you haven’t managed to acquire a GCSE in English, we are on hand to help you. We take great pride in our teaching of GCSE English and have wide experience in developing the sort of skills you need to get that magic C grade.

The course involves you doing some personal writing, and looking at a range of media and non-fiction texts as well as poetry from other cultures. You study a Shakespeare play and some fiction, and learn how best to achieve marks for your speaking and listening skills. You go back over key aspects of grammar and punctuation, explore the best ways of structuring essays and using words to get the right marks, and get plenty of individual time with your teacher to develop your work.

“The GCSE English course helped me so much. I learnt a lot during the year and feel as though I really pulled through.” Lori Read (BTEC Health and Social Care student).

“English was fantastic because the teacher respected us and I got more one-to-one help with my work.” Aiden Ward (BTEC IT student).

Assessment

• A coursework folder of four essays (20%)
