Summary
The Level 2 Vocational Foundation Programme provides a high-quality route onto Level 3 study, whether that be A Levels, BTECs or T Levels. The course is designed for students who would benefit from the extra year, the additional study time and preparation that it will give them before they start their Level 3 course.
The course will also will provide you with a wide range of theoretical and technical skills that can be utilised in a wide range of careers and industries.
In addition, students will be able to experience a range of Vocational Tasters and Projects in Health and Social Care, Art, Media, IT, Business, Sport as well a range of A Level subjects.
Entry Requirements
Achieve 5 GCSEs at grade 3 or above, including English Language and maths.
Learning Outcomes
The Vocational Foundation Year will provide young people with the skills and knowledge with a focus on the following core competencies:
- Skills for Successful Study
- Positive Attitudes and Behaviours
- English, Maths and Digital Skills
- Knowledge and Skills for the Workplace
Objective
Key principles of studying the Level 2 Vocational Foundation Year is to:
1) Provide relevant preparation for what students will experience at a higher level of study
2) Develop core knowledge, skills and behaviours that prepare students for progressing to level 3 study in their chosen subject
3) Help students to make the right decision about what to do after the programme of study
Assessment
The Level 2 Vocational Foundation Year runs 2 qualifications that are assessed through coursework, there are no formal examinations. However, if the student is taking GCSE English or maths as part of their programme of study, there will be exams for those.
Coursework assignments will be assessed through written assignments, group work and presentations. You will also undertake a work experience placement or engage with a community project or volunteering.
Progression
Progression can be to their chosen Level 3 course, whether that is vocational or A Levels.
The expectation is that students wishing to progress to a Level 3 course will have met the 90% attendance target plus have demonstrated a good level of performance in terms of work progress and behaviour.
Students should also achieve at least a Merit overall for the Level 2 qualification and achieved GCSE English and Maths to the required grade.
Career Progression
The subject area can lead students into a wide variety of different occupations in a wide range of business environments. Having completed this course, the next step may be to continue their studies either in an apprenticeship or other subject areas.
Fees
If you are a UK or home fee status student and aged 16-18 on the 31st August before the start of your course, tuition fees are free. If you are aged 19 and over fees may be payable.
