“If I could sum up my journey with CCN in one word, it would be ‘transformative’”
4th February 2019
After leaving school, I followed many of my fellow pupils and took A-Levels at City College Norwich with the intention of going to university.
Choice & Variety
I chose to study at city College Norwich as I wanted to join a multi-discipline college. When I initially joined, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do, so studying at CCN was my preferred choice, based on the wide variety of courses and further education options.
Apprenticeships & The World of Work
The truth is, I was never 100% sold on the idea of going to university, because I was ready to get stuck into the world of work, earn money and gain some independence. On the other hand, I wasn’t prepared to completely abandon my education, so I decided to investigate alternatives.
I came across a few apprenticeship positions which caught my eye and decided to apply. The concept of gaining practical on-the-job experience whilst studying towards a qualification and earning a wage was very appealing!
Employer Partnerships
I worked at CCN campus in the Employer Partnerships Department as an Administrative Apprentice for 18 months, followed by a Marketing Apprentice.
Working as an apprentice in the Employer Partnerships Department shaped me as a person. I gained valuable experience in an office environment and liaised with employers in Norfolk to promote the apprenticeship scheme.
Confidence & a Sense of Direction
Asides from my qualifications, during my time at City College Norwich, I gained confidence, communication skills, work experience, a sense of direction, and ambition.
11 years later, I can honestly say it was the best decision I ever made. I am incredibly proud of my apprenticeship roots, which helped me to carve a successful career.
The Present Day
Presently, I am a Marketing Manager at Clapham & Collinge LLP. I would like to continue in this role, develop my skills and progress further within the firm.
I aspire to be a non-practising equity partner at Clapham & Collinge LLP.
