Sam Meyer shares how his Paston College journey has seen him follow his dreams of working on major brand commercials and music videos.
Developing artistic style
I studied A Level Maths, Geography, Photography, and Media Studies at Paston College.
I enjoyed my time at college, especially my media and photography courses. Discussion with Matt and Tom in Media studies as well as David in photography helped me form an early style and opinion on the aesthetic of the images I create
I really enjoyed working in the darkroom creating images with Paul and David during my photography course, this gave me a basic understanding of photochemistry which is an experience I can use when shooting on music videos on film today.
Progressing to film school and working on music videos and commercials
After college, I attended Bournemouth Film School. After graduating, I worked in the lighting department for a number of years before taking the next step to becoming a director of photography. Working mainly in promos and commercials I have recently shot artists including Ed Sheeran, Stormzy, Anne-Marie, Aitch and Jacob Banks.
I'm currently working on commercials for Adidas and Nike.
Future plans
In future, I would like to start shooting feature films as well as continuing my work in commercials and music videos.
