Student Experience

Getting to Paston

Transport to Paston is both convenient and affordable with North Walsham being well served by both bus routes and train services.

We believe that every young person should be able to study at a College, if they want to and it is right for them. We’re serious about transport and do all we can to make it easy to travel to study at the College.

The train station is just a short 5 minute walk from college and connects services from Norwich to Cromer, Sheringham and Runton on the coast.

Students are encouraged to take advantage of the Norfolk County Council (NCC) Post 16 Transport Scheme for transport by bus www.norfolk.gov.uk/post16transport and opportunities for reduced rail fares linked to Greater Anglia’s 16+ Scholar ticket https://public.greenrailtravel.co.uk/scholars.html   Rail fares may be cheaper than the NCC subsidised rate, particularly from stations on the Norwich to Sheringham line.  It is also worth checking directly with bus operators to see if there are any discounts that are more suitable to your needs.

Travel from the “core” area

The core route area includes, for example, East Runton, Cromer, Aylsham, Stalham, Wroxham/Hoveton, Hemsby, Rackheath, Coltishall and Horstead. Further information and details can be found on the County Council or college website.  Travel from locations within this area is organised by Norfolk County Council and full details are available on their website.  All buses stop near to the College making journeys convenient and comfortable.  Again please check rates linked to Greater Anglia’s Scholar deals which might be more convenient.

A full annual payment for the Post 16 Transport Scheme is currently £525 for 2018/19, with options to pay in termly instalments (please see link above) to offer flexibility and spread the cost.

Travel from outside the “core” area

Students/parents can complete an application for the Bursary for travel assistance prior to enrolment. This will speed up the application process once enrolled with us. Online application form will be available to complete from July 2018.

Travel from North Norwich, Acle, Caister, Yarmouth, Sheringham and Holt areas is currently organised through Norfolk County Council  see this website https://www.norfolk.gov.uk/education-and-learning/school-and-college-transport/travel-options-by-college-or-sixth-form/north-walsham-paston-sixth-form-college

Students from the Taverham, Hellesdon, and Reepham area we recommend First buses No 28/29 which is the Yellow line. This route will stop at Castle Meadow in Norwich City Centre in time for the Sanders North Walsham bus to Paston College. There is currently a mini-bus covering these areas, but will come to the end of its contract this academic year in September.

Travel to Paston from Norwich and beyond is easy with Greater Anglia’s 16+ Scholar’s tickets.  As an example the current price (June 2017) for a 16+ ticket from Norwich to North Walsham is £691.90 per year, from Salhouse £498.10 a year and Sheringham £401.10 per year.  Scholar’s tickets are available for travel from a wider area, if you contact Greater Anglia they can advise on the cheapest option at the time.

Please note all the information applies to 2017-18 only and will be reviewed for 2018-19 in line with NCC changes.

If you would like to see our Student Transport Officer, Natalie Halsall, she will be at our Open days 5th and 6th October. If you have any transport queries please email Natalie  citytravel@ccn.ac.uk
